You Need To Find Your 'Christine' While On Low-Carb

Jimmy & Christine Moore Celebrating 10 Years Of Marriage

Tomorrow is August 5 and it will be just another day for most people. But for me, it will be very special because that is the day my lovely bride Christine decided to make me her husband ten years ago. We are celebrating this weekend by doing various activities.

We just got back from getting a massage and facial and a day spa and salon and we'll be leaving for a bed & breakfast place up the road in the mountains as soon as I'm finished writing this blog post. With permission from Christine, I will be appearing live on the radio tomorrow afternoon to talk about my weight loss success story and then we will go out to dinner at a nice restaurant. We don't have a lot of money, but we will certainly make every moment count by spending time with each other which is the most important part of marriage.

Why am I boring you with all the sappy details about my special anniversary? Well, I wanted you to know where I am in case you don't see any new blog posts over the next day (although I will try to squeeze one in on Friday afternoon). But I also wanted to illustrate a point regarding livin' la vida low-carb (imagine that!).

When you are embarking on any kind of weight loss journey, you must have at least one person who will stand with you through this experience. This person will give you the motivation to keep going when you are struggling and will also chastise you in a loving manner when it looks like you are falling off the wagon. That's exactly the role Christine played in my weight loss and I brag on her quite a bit in my upcoming book.

If you are trying to do the low-carb lifestyle alone, then you are setting yourself up for failure. I am firmly convinced that people need to surround themselves with an accountability partner who will hold them to their obligation during the weight loss phase and then many other accountability partners after the weight has come off to help you keep it off. In fact, I am telling people to get on me if they see me starting to slip back into bad eating habits or slacking off significantly on my exercising. There's no way on God's green earth I will ever get back up over 400 pounds again!

Back to Christine. The woman I love so dearly has been there for me in the good and the bad. She married me when I weighed 350 pounds and she was 95 pounds soaking wet. She watched me lose 170 pounds on a low-fat diet in 1999 only to gain it all back and then some prior to 2004. Then she watched me start yet ANOTHER diet last year and stood with me anyway. That commitment to my personal well-being cannot be put into words. She has been my anchor despite going through some very difficult physical circumstances with the risk of losing her eyesight over the past year.

In fact, we won the day spa and bed & breakfast visits in a local radio contest at Valentine's Day when they asked why you and your spouse deserved a weekend away. I told them about my weight loss and about my wife's eye problems and medical bills and they chose our story as the grand prize. That was truly a gift from God because we weren't sure we would be able to do anything for our tenth wedding anniversary. Praise the Lord they chose us to win so we could have a nice mini-vacation for just the two of us.

Before I go, let me encourage you to do something today. Tell the people who are standing with you during your weight loss and weight maintenance on the low-carb lifestyle how much you appreciate their support. Too often we forget to just say "thank you" and "I love you" because we assume they already know it. While that may be true, it sure is nice to let them know it verbally from your lips every once in a while. It'll make you and them feel appreciated and it gives them motivation to keep lifting you up to reach your weight loss goals. That's what Christine has done in my life and I hope and pray that you find your "Christine" to be with you as you are livin' la vida low-carb.

I don't know what I'd do without About.com's Weight Loss forum to hang out at. They have REALLY helped me on my journey, and have stood by and supported me even when my church has been less that supportive of my change in diet (potlucks are carb fests).
