The Shirataki Noodle Diet? Why Not?

Ever since I started blogging in this forum, it never ceases to amaze me how many different weight loss programs, ideas, and flat-out gimmicks people come up with to help people lose weight.

We've seen some pretty outrageous stuff along the way -- a stomach pacemaker, ear stapling, weight loss chocolate bars, the cookie diet, and the bread diet.

All of these have a fundamental problem -- NONE of them produces a change in your behavior and/or physiological condition to keep you from eating too many calories which then causes you to gain weight.

But a gentleman by the name of Dr. Jonathan Carp believes he has found the "missing link in weight loss" -- shirataki noodles!

If you have been reading my blog recently, then you know how much I LOVE these low-carb Japanese pasta noodles that are taking the nation by storm. Dr. Carp is a strong supporter of the Konjac brand of shirataki noodles to help people feel full longer so they will eat less calories and in turn lose weight.

The failure of most diets is that they artificially restrict the amount of certain foods to a point that people give up on it very easily, Dr. Carp asserts. As a result, he believes it is important to find a way to eat that is enjoyable and sustainable.

"The goal of keeping the weight off is one that must be approached with specific planning and a plan that is tasty and convenient to continue as a habit."

This is an important concept to understand if you want to lose weight forever. Learning good eating habits will carry you through the rest of your life and help you stay slim and trim with little to no effort. When you've struggled with your weight for a long time, then that can be hard to believe. But you must BELIEVE IT to ACHEIVE IT!

Dr. Carp said there is an ingredient you can add to your diet that will help you along in your weight loss journey. It's called soluble fiber and is the key ingredient found in Konjac shirataki noodles.

"Why is soluble fiber essential for weight loss? The primary answer to this question lies in the ability of soluble fiber in enough quantity to provide a sensation of fullness once it enters the digestive tract. Soluble fiber will expand and form a gel in the digestive tract that will slow digestion prolonging the sensation of fullness and at the same time slowing the digestion. So, you get a more complete and sustained absorption of glucose and other nutrients."

If eating Konjac shirataki noodles can do all that (and I've experience this myself after eating them), then why wouldn't you want to add more of it to your diet? Dr. Carp went on to say how slowing the rate of glucose absorption stabilizes blood sugar, keeps you satiated, improves your mood (because you're not hungry!), and increases your energy. Cool deal!

While most American foods seem to lack adequate amounts of soluble fiber to get the job done, Konjac shirataki noodles fills in the gap and should be on the grocery shopping list of every man, woman, boy and girl who cares about their health.

"The shirataki noodle used for 2000 years has virtually no calories and no carbohydrates but provides an amazing source of high soluble fiber that can be used as a noodle/pasta replacement only limited by your imagination."

Encouraging people to eat at least one bag of Konjac shirataki noodles for lunch every single day, Dr. Carp said the results will immediately be noticed.

"You will reduce your total caloric intake dramatically and increase your soluble fiber intake by a whopping 9 grams. In addition, you will feel full and full of energy unlike your coworkers who overeat at lunch and fall into a post lunch daze."

Zzzzzzzzzz, did you say something? LOL! Dr. Carp is right on, you know. Eating Konjac shirataki noodles may not seem like a big deal, but wait until you start noticing the difference in how you feel and especially in your weight. You'll end up eating LESS calories since the shirataki will keep you fuller longer.

The shirataki noodle diet is a healthy way to get through your day that Dr. Carp says can "be the cornerstone of your new weight loss plan."

Ok, you talked me into it. I haven't had time to breathe much less hunt these noodles down in the Asian district of Oakland, so I ordered a case of 20 online. Hopefully they will also help me cut my calories so I can lose weight.

I hunted around the Asian district today. No luck. :( Looks like I am stuck ordering online.

Have a great Easter weekend.

What are these noodles made out of? is there any grain or potato in them? My son is starting the GAPS diet and I am trying to find a noodle replace ment ... could this be it?

They are a fiber-based food made out of glucomannan. No grain or potato are in them at all.
