Low-Carb Peanut Butter That's 'Naturally More'

Except for those who have an allergy to peanuts, who DOESN'T like peanut butter?! I mean, what's more delightful than scooping out of the jar a creamy spoonful of delicious and nutritious peanut butter for a PB&J sandwich, on top of your favorite fruit, or just to lick all by itself. Mmm mmm, peanut butter is definitely something you looked forward to eating when you were a kid, wasn't it?

But now you are an adult and you are trying to eat healthier. You started livin' la vida low-carb and noticed something rather odd about that traditional peanut butter you grew up on: while it is relatively low in carbs (5-7 net carbs per serving), there's not much else to it in terms of healthy ingredients. Why can't they make a peanut butter that not only tastes good, but is also fortified with the healthy nutrients our bodies need to make it good for you, too?

Well, now they have. "They" being the Opelika, Alabama-based Peanut Snack Company and their new peanut butter product called Naturally More.

I stumbled upon this different kind of peanut butter about 4 months ago when I saw it on sale at my local grocery store right next to the other peanut butter products we've all seen out there for years. I was looking specifically for the Carb Options low-carb peanut butter that Skippy used to make, but it looks like that has been discontinued as well (yeah, so what else is new?!).

Nevertheless, the Naturally More peanut butter caught my attention with the sale price on it, so I picked it up and did the first thing I do with ANY new food product: I READ THE LABEL! And I must say I was quite impressed with what I saw for the 2 tablespoon serving size:

- ZERO trans fats
- ZERO cholesterol
- 10g protein
- 4g fiber
- 4g net carbs
- 4.1g omega-3 essential fatty acids
- 1.2g omega-6 essential fatty acids
- 169 calories
- 11g fat with 2g saturated fat

Can you say healthy? WOW, I was certainly impressed with this peanut butter and happily put two containers of it in my grocery basket to take advantage of the sale and to give this new product a chance to be fit into my low-carb lifestyle.

I knew this peanut butter was going to be different than the ones I grew up on when I untwisted the cap and removed the protective seal to see this:

Some people may think seeing all that oily fat rise to the top of their peanut butter is disgusting. Think again! Actually, that's the sign of a VERY healthy peanut butter that is not so synthetic that you never see the natural separation occur. Naturally More is an all-natural peanut butter with no additives or preservatives. In other words, it tastes like it was freshly-ground and should be kept refrigerated and stirred between uses.

Once you get down below the oil that has risen to the top, you see the yummy goodness of Naturally More shine through:

Do you see those little specks in the Naturally More peanut butter? No, that's not a "chunky" version of the peanut butter, but rather the flax seed that has been added. You heard me right, they put healthy amounts of flax seed and flax seed oil in this to bolster it with the healthy essential fatty acids your body needs. Traditional peanut butter from those "other" companies primarily use monounsaturated fat in their product, but not Naturally More. They instead distinguish between the good fats and the not-so-good ones.

As for the high-protein content, it comes from the protein-rich egg whites that are used in combination with the freshest roasted peanuts money can buy. You can really see the difference in this peanut butter when you mix the oil and peanut butter together for a delicious looking peanut butter product.

I know what you are dying to ask: "Yeah, yeah, it's healthy, looks good, has all the right ingredients, yadda yadda yadda. But how does it TASTE, Jimmy?!" I'm so glad you asked that question. :)

When I first put Naturally More peanut butter in my mouth, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never tried any other kind of peanut butter that was like this one before. But after mixing the oil and peanut butter well, I scooped out a spoonful and licked it straight up to see what it was like.

It reminded me of the first time I ate fresh green beans instead of canned ones--the difference in taste is like night and day because you never knew what you were missing. That's exactly what eating Naturally More peanut butter was like for me. If I knew peanut butter could taste like this AND be good for me, too, then I would have been eating this stuff a long time ago!

With about one-third less fat, 20 percent more protein, double the dietary fiber, and less carbohydrates than traditional peanut butter, why wouldn't you want to give Naturally More a chance to be part of your healthy low-carb lifestyle, too? You really should try it just one time to experience for yourself this fantastic peanut butter.

The marketing slogan for Naturally More is "It's What Peanut Butter Should Be!" Once you've had Naturally More, you'll never go back to those other peanut butter brands again (sorry Peter Pan, Skippy, and Jif!).

Check with the local grocery stores in your area for the Naturally More peanut butter and ask them to carry it if they are not already doing so. You can also call The Peanut Snack Co. directly at 334-741-4100 to place an order. They do not have an online order form at this time, but you can visit their web site located at PeanutSnack.com. Be sure to tell them "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Man" Jimmy Moore sent you!

I was googling info and came across your blog. Without realizing it, I had commented on one of your entries from a year ago. I'm going to copy and paste what I put here.. hah

It now takes me 45 minutes to burn 450 calories on the elliptical at my gym.. I've only been working out for 2 weeks and started pretty out of shape. I'm 24, I'm 5'10'', 148lbs, 22% body fat. I couldn't imagine burning off 800 calories in that time! I'd be dead! I guess I'll have to work up to that! What setting do you have it on? I do the "fat loss" but I up the resistance a bit. I keep my heart rate in the "cardiovascular" section for most of the workout (157 bpm average). I've also incorporated strength training.

Any tips for a newbie would be appreciated. Trying to have a banging body by next summer! amperry@gmail.com

Hey Amber,

THANKS for dropping by my blog. Come back and visit ANYTIME! :D

My elliptical workout to burn 800 calories is right at 42 minutes now. I DEFINITELY had to work my way up to that level and have pushed myself to do it.

Currently, at my weight of 236 I go about 9.0 mph on a 13 resistance manual setting. I'm sure I could bump it up to 15, but I'm going to go one more month at that level.

When I first started, I did NO resistance until I could get used to BREATHING on that thing. It's quite a workout and I enjoy it immensely.

THANKS again for writing and in meeting your fitness goals. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Jimmy,

When I saw the name of the peanut butter, I was thinking "Naturally Moore"

LOL

You know you can get ground up peanuts, that is a butter. 100% from peanuts.

totally natural. But this commercial brand seems good.

Is regular peanut butter really so unhealthy?

I thought it was okay.

From a carb standpoint, BillyHW, no. But if you can get healthy essential fatty acids in your diet along with some great-tasting peanut butter, then that is better, wouldn't you say?

Try the peanut butter made at Hell's Kitchen in Minneapolis/Duluth. You can order it online.

It'll blow your mind if you love peanut butter. :)

i've had it previously. not really impressed. PLUS, it has HONEY in the ingredients list.
I'm a solid customer of Smucker's Natural PB. Peanuts, salt, that's it. Actually, I have to be careful...it's a trigger food for me.

P.S. Jimmy, from SC, don't you love boiled peanuts? Travelled thru SC last year and I tried them...great!
