'Sorta, Kinda' Doing Low-Carb Doesn't Cut It
Whenever I talk to people about my weight loss success story doing the low-carb lifestyle, I can't help but cringe whenever I hear some of the responses I get from people alleging to be doing the same weight loss method.
They'll say, "I'm sorta, kinda doing low-carb" and then go into a one-minute explanation about how they waver from any structured low-carb plan.
The one that REALLY gets me is when somebody says they are on a "modified Atkins" diet. What the heck does that mean?! You're either on Atkins or you are not. That's the same thing as somebody saying they are "a little pregnant."
Why is it that people who are trying to lose weight think they know enough about diet and nutrition to make their own decisions regarding weight loss? If you really knew how to do it, then how and why did you get to be overweight or obese? Hmmmm?
You wouldn't make your own medical decisions without consulting the advice of your doctor and leaning on his medical expertise if you are sick. Then why would you do the same when it comes to an issue just as important -- tackling your weight problem!!!
If you are going to start livin' la vida low-carb, then this "sorta, kinda" approach to it is a recipe for failure. Commit to doing one of the many fantastic low-carb eating lifestyles and stick with it down to every last word. No modifications. No changes at all. Do it as written!
I just shake my head when somebody tells me low-carb didn't work for them. When I inquire deeper into "why" it didn't work, I usually discover the person did it during the week and then got "off the diet" on the weekends. Well, duh! You can't say the diet failed you if you do that!
Or when the ladies at work talk about doing low-carb, but then splurging on sugar-laced foods like cookies and sweets that are brought to the office. They know they can't have those on their low-carb lifestyle, but they still insist on scarfing it down because it'll be "just this one time." I learned a long time ago that's one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves. Unless, of course, you count the rest of your life as that "one time!" :-)
Are you serious about livin' la vida low-carb? Is your desire to lose weight so strong that you are not willing to let anything knock you off track? If not, then you need to get your priorities straight right now! If weight loss and restored health is what you desire, then find a low-carb plan and JUST DO IT!
And whatever you do, don't blame low-carb if you "sorta, kinda" do it on your own. That's not the way this lifestyle was meant to be done and pointing fingers at anyone but yourself just doesn't cut it. It's a guaranteed one-way ticket to failure. Don't let it happen to you!
