Qorvis Communications Keeping Watchful Eye On Low-Carb Blog For Sugar Association

Why is Qorvis Communications monitoring 'Livin' La Vida Low-Carb'?

Whether I intended to do it or not, it seems my blog posts here at "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" have become interesting and important research fodder for the publicity firm representing the Sugar Association.

Ever since I posted this timeline of events back on July 11, 2005 linking the attacks against Splenda with the Sugar Association, I have received a number of visits from representatives from Qorvis Communications, a marketing firm based in Washington, DC.

However, today I noticed that there was one visitor from Qorvis who spent nearly an hour and a half browsing around my blog looking at all kinds of content, including the aforementioned timeline, several other articles I have written across the Internet critical of sugar, my Blogger profile, and my weight loss pictures.

What is Qorvis looking for in their out-of-the-blue search about me and my innocent little blog about the low-carb lifestyle?

Sure, I've been especially critical of sugar and how I believe it is perpetuating the obesity problem in this country in numerous blog posts, including the following:

- Sugar, Not Fat, Responsible For Obesity Problem
- Sugar Addiction, Obesity, And Low-Carb Living
- Great Sugar Debate Of 2005 Rages On
- Study May Confirm How I Was Able To Overcome My Addiction To Sugar
- Battle Lines Are Drawn In The Debate Over Sugar

That's just a few of the many blog posts I have written about the subject of sugar. The low-carb lifestyle is so interwoven with the elimination of sugar from your diet that it is a natural subject for me to write about. But apparently someone at Qorvis isn't too happy with my opinions regarding sugar and the health risks it poses to people attempting to control their weight.

You might recall that I previously explained that Qorvis is the company that launched the anti-Splenda web site called TruthAboutSplenda.com in January 2005 on behalf of The Sugar Association. The Director of Qorvis is a man named Matt J. Lauer (not to be confused with the popular co-host of NBC's "Today" Show), who joined Qorvis in Ocrober 2004. Interestingly, Lauer has a connection with my home state of South Carolina in his previous role as Communications Director for the South Carolina Democratic Party.

I suspect Lauer was the one who visited my blog this afternoon and spent so much time reading about me and my opinions regarding sugar and Splenda. Rest assured I cannot and will not stop talking about how sugar has contributed to the rising obesity rates in the United States of America because I have seen the damaging effects sugar has had on my own health prior to losing 180 pounds on a low-carb lifestyle beginning in 2004. A BIG part of that weight loss can be contributed to my successfully eliminating sugar. It is just not worth it for people to be putting gobs and gobs of sticky and wasteful carbs into their mouths just to watch their stomachs and the rest of their body balloon back up to where they were before. Never again will I allow myself to reach 410 pounds or more. That's not going to happen as long as I avoid sugar entirely.

Let me be completely clear about one thing. I do not have anything personal against sugar farmers and growers who make their living harvesting sugar cane. However, anyone who tries to deny the fact that sugar has been at the center of the ongoing obesity epidemic is either somehow delusional or purposefully lying. Which is it for The Sugar Association and their PR firm Qorvis Communications?

Feel free to send Lauer an e-mail at Mlauer@qorvis.com to ask him that question along with inquring why he is snooping around at "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb." Everything I write about in this forum is what I earnestly believe and I will not back down from expressing my opinion in order to help the millions upon millions of people who need to learn more about how those white granules they consume each day are destroying their health. As long as I have breath to breathe, I will be encouraging people to stay away from sugar completely.
