Most People Take Vitamins For Health And Disease Prevention, New Survey Finds
A survey conducted by the Northwood, Ohio-based NFO MySurvey.com recently found that a majority of respondents take vitamin supplementation to augment their health and to protect against diseases.
According to the survey results released in an e-mail to participants on Tuesday, nearly 60 percent currently take at least one supplement as part of their health consciousness. More women, 64 percent, than men, 53 percent, are vitamin users. Not surprisingly, eight out of 10 people who take vitamins use a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement and 35 percent take the bone-healthy calcium supplements.
When participants were asked what their top reasons for taking a nutritional supplement, seven out of 10 respondents overwhelmingly stated to "stay healthy/prevent disease." Another 42 percent said they take vitamins to "feel better physically" followed closely by "don't always eat right" and "have more energy" at 39 percent and 38 percent respectively.
One-fourth of respondents said a "health professional recommended" they take vitamins and 21 percent said the vitamins "help with a condition I already have."
With growing concerns about whether vitamin supplements will continue to be available in the coming years, this survey reveals how so many Americans rely on vitamins to help them maintain optimum health without the dangers associated with prescription drugs. While the numbers in this survey are good, they can certainly be better.
More Americans need to realize how important vitamin supplementation is to their health and should begin at least taking a multi-vitamin immediately. I devote an entire chapter of my upcoming book on the subject of vitamins because they are just too vital a part of a healthy lifestyle to ignore. Do if for your health and you'll be glad you did!
