Splenda Hosts Recipe Contest To Celebrate Their New Brown Sugar Blend

New brown sugar version of SPLENDA® cuts the carbs in half

Ft. Washington, PA-based McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, the company that produces the awesome artificial sweetener SPLENDA®, recently announced the release of a brand new sugar subsitute product that is sure to bring a smile to the faces of people who love to bake around the holiday season.

Despite the onslaught of attacks from the sugar industry on their product this year, SPLENDA® has continued to lead the way in producing quality sugar alternatives for people who are trying to reduce and eliminate sugar out of their diet, including people who are livin' la vida low-carb. I can personally attest to the dynamic impact that consuming SPLENDA® has done for me during my 180+ pound weight loss and helping me overcome my sugar addiction once and for all.

But there has been one glaring product type missing from the artificial sweetener genre -- until now! The brand new world premier of SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend is a new proprietary blend of brown sugar and sucralose. It has all the characteristics of brown sugar used in so many baked good, but has half the sugar, calories and carbohydrates of regular brown sugar. For low-carbers who enjoy the molasses flavor and features of brown sugar, they're gonna LOVE this new Splenda product.

McNeil Nutritionals, LLC North America General Manager Debra Sandler said providing consumers who are cutting back on their sugar intake with "another option" will help them reach a largely "untapped" market.

"In the multi-billion dollar sweetener industry, brown sugar constitutes 14 percent of all sweetener unit sales," Sandler said. "When simply presented with the idea of SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend, 40 percent of consumers said they definitely or probably would buy it. Moreover, our research showed that almost 84 percent of those who tried the SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend at home would purchase it if available, signifying overwhelming interest from consumers."

However, since there is still sugar and carbs present in this product, I would not recommend it to people who are still in the weight loss phase of low-carb. But if you are maintaining your weight, then this is a "legal" way for you to indulge yourself just a bit to enjoy the taste of brown sugar once again.

The SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend is available in 1/2 lb. bags which will provide the equivalent of a 1 lb. bag of regular brown sugar. The suggested retail price for the 1/2 lb. bag is $2.69 and the 1 lb. bag is $4.69 and it is currently available in stores everywhere.

This new SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend comes just in time for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas baking season. In fact, one restauranteur is already planning on using it in his restaurant to help his customers cut down on their sugar.

"Many of my favorite recipes call for brown sugar and until now, brown sugar was difficult to substitute because it is a more complex sugar, one that adds texture and rich flavor," said Chef Stephen Pyles, of Dragonfly Restaurant in Dallas, TX. "But, with the new SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend, I can now meet my customers requests for reduced sugar options with recipes like the new black bottom pecan pie that I created, and my customers will never taste the difference."

Baked items such as cookies, glazed ham, apple pie and much more can be made with this new product.

As an added promotional strategy, a new recipe contest has been launched to celebrate the release of the new SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend called "A Sprinkle A Spoon Or A Scoop -- How Will You Use SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend?" People who have recipes that use at least 1/4 cup of SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend can submit them at SPLENDA.com for a chance to win a KitchenAid Stand Mixer. The recipes will be judged on taste, appearance, creativity, and ease of use.
