Dr. Phil Beckons Weight Loss Success Stories

Dr. Phil looking for 'unforgettable weight loss stories'

My wife and I have to confess something to the whole wide world -- we are BIG Dr. Phil fans! From the time he used to go on Oprah Winfrey's show on Tuesday all the way to his highly-rated television talk show today, Dr. Phil McGraw has certainly made a name for himself by offering people answers to the difficult problems that life can present.

One of the most common themes that Dr. Phil discusses is weight. In fact, his advice about weight loss recently led to a class action lawsuit being filed against him. Nevertheless, there is merit in the weight loss success stories featured on The Dr. Phil Show because they help others find the motivation and inspiration to do it for themselves.

I received a telephone call from my wife Christine this morning after she had watched Dr. Phil talk about wanting weight loss stories that were "unforgettable." She told me that for a limited time today, his producers would be accepting the stories of people who have gone through an incredible weight loss transformation.

So I submitted the following e-mail to the show:

Dear Dr. Phil Show producers,

My name is Jimmy Moore and I have lost 190 pounds over the past two years.

On January 1, 2004, I made it my New Year's resolution to lose weight after allowing myself to reach an incredibly unhealthy 410 pounds. At the age of 32, though, I was ready to FINALLY do something about my weight problem -- FOR GOOD!

I began a low-carb lifestyle along with regular exercise, increased water consumption, taking vitamins, and giving up sugar. As a result, I lost 180 pounds in 2004. My goal in 2005 was DON'T GAIN IT BACK and I lost another 10 pounds by continuing on with the plan I had started in 2004.

Although the weight loss was difficult in the beginning, keeping the weight off has been surprisingly easier than I expected. As a 34-year-old, 6'3", 220-pound man now, I had no idea that HEALTHY could feel so good. :)

As for my appearance, my waist went from a size 62 down to a 40 (and it would be 2-4 inches smaller than that if the loose skin in my abdomen could be taken care of). I used to wear 5XL shirts and now I'm fitting into large. People are ALWAYS calling me "skinny" and "thin man" now. That's just freaky weird to me since I've been obese my entire life. But I'm starting to get used to it and I might actually start believing it someday.

Because of my enormous weight loss, I now LOOK FORWARD to my daily workouts at the YMCA. I had no idea that exercise was such a great release for the stresses of daily life. Now I anxiously anticipate my lunch break at work because I go workout on the elliptical for nearly an hour a day. I can also run full-court playing basketball without getting winded. WOO HOO!

In fact, my wife was astounded during this past Fall when she asked me to go back to our car to get her purse when we were about 1/4 mile from it. When she said to "take your time," I just started running and running like Forrest Gump (run, Jimmy, run!) and didn't stop until I reached the driver's side door of my Ford Escort.

Amazingly, I was NOT winded when I got there. I even SPRINTED back to where she was and her eyes just bugged out at what she had just watched her formerly slobby chunky husband just do! LOL! I even amazed myself that day.

As for being able to acheive a major personal goal because of my weight loss, my weight loss gave me a great reason to write my first book. I enjoy writing and had wanted to write a book anyway, so this gave me the perfect platform for doing that.

It's called "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" and available from Amazon.com and at my web site, LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com. I wrote it because I got tired of repeating the same answer to the same question I kept getting over and over again: "How'd you lose so much weight?" How do you answer a loaded question like that without writing a book about it?! And so I did. :)

I would love to have the opportunity to share my weight loss success story with the Dr. Phil viewers. My web site currently gets over 20,000 pageviews per month from people desperately looking for encouragement and education about what they can do to lose weight for themselves.

Because of my tremendous weight loss triumph, I feel a sense of newfound purpose in life to help others overcome their obesity problem just like I did.

THANKS for your consideration and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

While it would certainly be nice to be able to go on The Dr. Phil Show to talk about livin' la vida low-carb, I'm not holding my breath too long for them to contact me. It would certainly be a dream come true, though, since my wife admire the work that Dr. Phil has done with his counseling on the show.

What an experience it would be to hear him say about my weight loss, "So, how's that workin' for ya?" To which I would reply, "Quite nicely, thank you very much!" LOL! Maybe...maybe.

Wish me luck and I will let you know if I hear back from Dr. Phil's producers (come on, phone, RING! -- LOL!).

Good luck! That would be so cool. :)

Last summer someone gave me a day-at-a-time Dr. Phil calendar. I guess they weren't getting any use out of it. I liked it. It had practical advice that even a low carber could benefit from. I think I'll check his site and see if he has one for this year.

Good for you Jimmy!
I hope he does call and invites you on his show!
Your story will reach a lot more people that way!
That will be 'one' for the Low carb team!

Jimmy - I'm also a HUGE Dr Phil fan! I tape his show every day and watch them over the weekend. (That way I won't miss anything even though I'm at work when his show airs.)

I wish you luck -- and look forward to watching the episode you're on! ;) (How's that for being optimistic?)

I saw his book at the grocery store today and picked it up. :) I want to get your book, but I want to buy it from a bookstore rather than online.

Hey NewBirth,

My book "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" is available from a bookstore. All you have to do is ask them about it and they can place an order for you. I've had several people tell me the book got there in about a week. THANKS!

Stacey's in SF has it listed on their Web site. That would be the best place. They are closed today but I will call tomorrow and make sure it's in stock. If not, I'll order it.
