With so many people taking advantage of participating in my "30-In-30" Low-Carb Weight Loss Challenge right now, it's probably a good idea for me to help people who may be just starting off on their low-carb lifestyle to show them what to expect in those all important early days of getting serious about livin' la vida low-carb.
While you will also have a system of support in this blog and from the people who read it, don't expect your friends, co-workers and family members to jump for joy about your decision to start a plan like the Atkins diet. You might even hear a few boo birds and have these knucklehead comments come blurting out about how unhealthy and dangerous low-carb living is. Believe me, I heard it all when I started out at over 400 pounds and I STILL hear it from people today even after cutting my weight nearly in half!
While you may think right now that there is no way possible you could ever give up sugar, bread, rice and other high-carb foods that you have become accustomed to eating, the fact is that your tastes WILL change and you will quickly find your desire for those items you once couldn't live without will begin to wane. And the longer you go without them, the less you will want them. That is a VERY good thing to happen!
Another neat thing you will notice is the fact that you aren't as hungry during the day like you used to be. If you are hungry on Atkins or any other low-carb diet, then you aren't eating enough fat and protein. Doing the program correctly means you have to throw everything you thought you knew about good nutrition out the window (i.e. low-carb is the healthiest way to eat) and begin learning new habits that will help you lose weight and get healthy!
Whatever you do in these early days, don't fall prey to "just this one time" temptations. As good as those doughnuts that your boss brought to the office look, they just not worth destroying all of the hard work you have invested in changing your lifestyle for the better. Resist the urge to even nibble a bit because it will cause you to crave more which would lead to certain disaster. The best thing you can do is walk as far away from the room where the sinful food is located and you'll never miss it!
Even now as you struggle to end your old ways and learn new ones, begin envisioning the goal you have set for yourself. Picture in your mind what you might look like when the weight loss comes, what clothes you'll be able to slip into, the glances that people will give you, the compliments you will hear about how good you look...IT'S COMING!!! Trust me, I lost my weight two years ago and I STILL get compliments from people (got one at the post office just yesterday!). Keep your eye on the prize and never lose your focus on why you are livin' la vida low-carb.

Health and success are sure to follow you all the way to the new thin person you will eventually become.
