Is People Magazine Giving A Low-Carb Success Another Chance To Tell His Story?

Do you remember the January 9, 2006 issue of People magazine that featured people who were "Half Their Size?" I blogged about this at the time how odd it was that this story about people who had lost significant amounts of weight was conspicuously missing a low-carb weight loss success story.

Here's what I wrote at the time:

"While it is admirable for People magazine to share such inspiring messages of hope and inspiration to their readers about the weight loss success of average, everyday Americans to help encourage people who need to lose weight to do it for themselves, it is blatantly dishonest to completely ignore a weight loss method that millions upon millions of people are still using to effective shed the pounds and get healthy."

Kent Altena lost nearly 200 pounds on low-carb and has kept it off

As it turns out, People magazine TRIED to get a good low-carb weight loss story when they contacted my low-carb blogging buddy Kent Altena for the story. After being interviewed, writing a story about his weight loss, and sending People magazine his before and after photos, Kent said they were noticably silent about whether his story would be included or not.

"I never heard back from People magazine at all. So not only did they not highlight a low-carb weight loss success story, but they intentionally ignored an article that was already written for them. I am not the conspiratorial type and could certainly believe it was due to my nonphotogenic look, but the editors of People magazine certainly had at least one low-carb success story to choose from for their article."

Well, guess what? Kent has once again heard back from People magazine who again is working on a story about people who have lost a lot of weight. He was contacted again by the exact same reporter as last time to see if he would be interested in doing it again. While he accepted the invitation to be interviewed -- AGAIN! -- he's not holding his breath about it this time considering what happened a few months ago.

You can't blame for being just a wee bit incredulous about what he describes as his People magazine "saga."

"Any guesses on how many low carb subscribers will be in this issue?"

Whether they use your amazing low-carb weight loss success story or not, Kent, we are VERY proud of you for what you have been able to accomplish and look to you as an example of how low-carb living can change someone's life! YOU GO BOY! The readers at the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog cheer you on and wish you the best of luck this time around with your story. If they do publish your story, then you'll have to send me an autographed copy! Deal? :)

Why don't we ENCOURAGE People magazine to include a low-carb weight loss success story like Kent Altena in future issues focusing on weight loss? Send your comments to the editor at editor@people.com. Here's wishing you well Kent!
