I Feel Like Death May Be Following Me With Recent String Of Tornadoes

A twister touches down in Suffolk, VA one day after I was there

Have you ever seen that movie series Final Destination? The premise in all three flicks is that once you cheat death, it comes back to get you anyway in the most peculiar ways. It certainly made for an entertaining set of movies, but now I'm beginning to wonder if "death" may be following me with tornadoes over the past three months.

Here are 3 tornadoes incidents we came close to in 2008:

1. JACKSON, TN on February 5, 2008

Just six weeks prior to the tornado I blogged about ripping through Union University in Jackson, TN, we drove right by there on a trip to Bolivar, Tennessee to visit my dad for the Christmas holidays. I can remember pointing directly at the Union campus telling Christine that I had several friends who went to college there while I was at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the early 1990's.

2. ATLANTA, GA on March 13, 2008

It was only one week before the tragic tornado hit downtown Atlanta that I was walking straight up International Boulevard in that very city at the 2008 Heart, Patio, and Barbecue Expo on a Friday night right after returning from my low-carb cruise to Mexico. It's scary to think that could have happened one week later and we would have been right there in the center of it all!

3. SUFFOLK, VA on April 28, 2008

This time was almost too close when only one day prior to the tornado ripping through hundreds of homes in the town of Suffolk, VA, Christine and I were driving back to our home in Spartanburg, SC after a quick weekend trip to the Hampton Roads area in Virginia Beach, VA for my sister-in-law's wedding reception. Had we known what was to come to that town the next day as we drove by it on Sunday, then we would not have been able to control our emotions. We drove through several very heavy downpours on the way home, but had no idea a tornado was about to hit where we were driving along US-58.

Coincidence? Sure. What are the odds of being that close to three different tornadoes in three cities over the span of three months though? I'd say the probability of that happening is at least a bazillion to one. And yet it has happened and the tornadoes seem to be getting closer and closer each time.

It's all just a bit unsettling when you stop and think about it. Of course, if there really was something like "death" coming to get you, then certainly it would all be within God's perfect plan for my life and I'm cool with that. But I'd prefer to stick around a lot longer doing what I'm doing helping people as they begin the healthy low-carb lifestyle.

This blog post doesn't really have anything at all to do with livin' la vida low-carb, but I couldn't help sharing this story with you today in the wake of yet another sad story about a tornado tragedy. Thoughts anyone?

LLVLC On YouTube (Episode 28): Grills, Fire, And Moore At The 2008 HPBA Expo

Christine and I attended the 2008 HPBA Expo in Atlanta, Georgia!

We must have been completely crazy coming back from our five-day Mexican cruise last Thursday to go straight to the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue (HPBA) Expo in Atlanta, Georgia. But that's what Christine and I did on Friday and Saturday walking for miles upon miles looking at fireplaces, grills, BBQ accessories, and more! It was a lot of fun and we captured some of our favorite moments on camera for our latest YouTube video.

In Episode 28 of "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube," I took my tried and trusted FLIP camera out and filmed Christine as we went from booth to booth at the HPBA Expo. Yes, it was a lot of walking after a tiring week of cruising, but I made some good contacts there with companies that may be willing to donate some really amazing prizes for my upcoming 3rd blogiversary giveaway contest in April. More to come about that!

See for yourself what the HPBA Expo is all about in today's video:

We were very fortunate to catch up with Michael Wales, the inventor of the Grill Daddy grill cleaner which I featured in Episode 27. He was gracious enough to offer a FREE Grill Daddy Pro to one lucky winner who leaves a comment at YouTube about this video. If your grill stays dirty and gunky, then this would be a cool prize to win. Special THANKS to Michael for his generous prize donation. :)

While we were filming, we also met up with Karen Adler from Pig Out Publications who I interviewed last year for my podcast show. The "BBQ Queen" also has a new book entitled BBQ Bash: The Be-All, End-All Party Guide, from Barefoot to Black Tie which will be available for purchase next month! She says it's full of GREAT low-carb recipes, too!

We also hooked up with Steven Raichlen who will be coming back to television in May 2008 with a brand new series about--what else?--BBQ, baby! Steven was leaving as we passed by the booth, so we didn't get him on camera, but you will notice he has a full line of amazing BBQ accessories for anything you will do with your grill. Amazing products!

There was so much to look at and see at the 2008 HPBA Expo that we will probably plan on going back again next year to Reno, Nevada for another great show! Have you ever seen so many grills and stuff in your life all in one place? Talk about what you thought about the video and don't forget to leave your comment for a chance to win a FREE Grill Daddy Pro. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Catch up on all the latest in our YouTube video series and subscribe to our videos to always see the new ones. We have well over 300 subscribers now and over 9,000 people have viewed our videos. THANK YOU for your support! As always, e-mail your show suggestions and comments to us anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. We LOVE hearing from our viewers!

I REALLY wanted to take some video footage while we were on our cruise and attempted to do so once. But the batteries died right in the middle of the filming and I just put it away for the rest of the trip. Oh well, maybe next year! It's a good thing, too, because there's no video of me cracking my head open after singing karaoke. I don't know which was funnier-watching me rap a Run DMC song or seeing me walking smack dab into a TV stand? LOL! At least I've got a memory of my 2008 cruise. :P

Atlanta-Based 'Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy' Radio Show To Interview Jimmy Moore

Dr. Adam Shafran and Lee Kantor are "Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy"

Have you heard about this great radio show/podcast that's happening down in Atlanta, Georgia called "Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy" featuring hosts Dr. Adam Shafran and Lee Kantor? If not, then you really should see for yourself the outstanding work these two are doing to promote healthy living in a fun and exciting way. I've always tried to make weight loss and getting fit as engaging and entertaining as possible here at my blog and on my own podcast show, so I'm glad to see this same philosophy being implored by others.

I wanted to let you know about this show because they have invited me to be their special call-in guest to appear LIVE on the program on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at around 7:15pm EST on WGSR 710AM. If you live in or around the Atlanta metropolitan area, then I'd love to have you tune in to "Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy" to hear me talk about the positive benefits of livin' la vida low-carb! WOO HOO!

While I do have quite a few readers who hail from the Atlanta area, I realize most of you do not. Not to fear, though, because through the magic of the World Wide Web, you will have access to the show LIVE as it is happening. All you need is iTunes on your computer and you'll be ready to go come 7:00pm EST on Sunday night. When you are ready to listen to WGSR in real time, just CLICK HERE and in seconds you will be listening (remember, don't click on that link until you are ready to tune into the show).

I'm looking forward to the 10-15 minute interview with "Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy" to share my 180-pound low-carb weight loss success story and my subsequent book, blogs, and podcast show with them. I've listened to several of their past shows already and was struck by the incredible chemistry between Dr. Shafran and Kantor which is absolutely perfect for what they are doing to help people get interested in the subject of health and fitness--not an easy task to accomplish! But they pull it off quite nicely.

In addition to their awesome web site, be sure to take a look at their blog and even listen to previous shows so you can get an idea of what "Dr Fitness And The Fat Guy" is all about. Both are very opinionated and aren't afraid to tell you what they think--does that remind you of anyone? Hmm, I wonder. :D

Be sure to drop a quick e-mail to both Dr. Shafran and Lee for having me on their super show. It's nice to know there are STILL people in this world advocating a healthy lifestyle these days who aren't misinforming people about the low-carb nutritional approach by calling it a dangerous fad that is unhealthy. Their willingness to have Mr. "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" Man Jimmy Moore appear on their show is proof "Dr. Fitness And The Fat Guy" don't buy into that nonsense. We should applaud leaders like these in health and fitness every chance we can get! Let's show 'em the love from the low-carb community, shall we? :)

And be sure to sign up for their FREE Partner Power Weight Loss Program eNewsletter as well as pick up a copy of their January 2005 book release from the same publisher who did my book--Booklocker.com--called You Can't Lose Weight Alone.
