So You Know, Here Comes 'The Dan Ho Show'

It's "The Dan Ho Show" airing Thursday nights on Discovery Health

A few months ago, I introduced you to a brand new lifestyle guru coming to the Discovery Health channel named Dan Ho, author of the book Rescue from Domestic Perfection: The Not-So Secrets of Balancing Life and Style.

After being featured in several special episodes on the popular cable network in the Fall 2006, Ho is now ready to launch his brand new half-hour show entitled "The Dan Ho Show" beginning this Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 9:00PM EST.

Check out the official trailer for "The Dan Ho Show":

You'll quickly discover over the course of these 18 thrill-packed shows that Dan Ho is NOT your typical health and wellness expert. He delves much deeper into the very essence of the human spirit by invoking a much more realistic view of how life should be lived. There's nobody else on television today like Dan who is as unpredictable as he is charming and gracious. He is a big believer in people being authentic and unafraid to be themselves--whatever that is!

“If it ain’t on the inside, it ain’t on the outside,” Dan often states.

The neat thing about Dan is he has such an inviting personality and a smile that could brighten a room full of pessimists in an instant. He's easy on the ears to listen to and gives you every reason in the world to trust what he has to say. Whether it's cooking, entertaining, decorating, grooming, gardening, or cleaning, "The Dan Ho Show" has got it!

You may even discover your own style after watching this show, so don't miss it on Thursday nights at 9:00PM EST with a special BONUS episode at 9:30PM EST airing back-to-back for a double dose of Ho! Sweet!

Here's a quick preview of what you will see when you tune in this week:

See what I mean about Dan being unconventional?! Do you think Martha Stewart would walk into the home of a complete stranger and immediately kiss the woman on both cheeks and then turn to the man and kiss his cheeks, too? Probably not, but Dan Ho did! If nothing else, just watch the show to see what Dan with that big poofy hair that goes flying in the wind will do next! Just kidding!

In the episode airing at 9:00PM this week called "Less Than Perfect," Dan shows a mother named Dawn that being "perfect" ain't the way to live because it robs you of the joy of just living your life. Of course, Dan gets her to loosen up and offers guidance about how to infuse life back into her life.

Then at 9:30PM, Dan helps out a newly-married couple after moving into their new home how to have a stress-free housewarming party in an episode called "A Housewarming the Ho Way." While the wife wants to buy all these new things for the party, Dan shows her she has everything they need in their basement for the best party yet!

Those creative folks over at Discovery Health have even come up with this neat little interactive game for you to play which features comments from a cartoon caricature of Dan Ho giving you advice about how to rearrange the furniture in your house. Go ahead, give it a try!

And watch Dan Ho Thursday nights at 9:00PM on Discovery Health!

Here Are 'The Dan Ho Show' Contest Winners

Dan Ho knows how to make you happy--FREE BOOKS!

I was privileged to host a FREE BOOK GIVEAWAY contest at my blog earlier this week featuring the brand new release from Dan Ho in promotion of his television special on Discovery Health called "The Dan Ho Show." So many of you entered for your chance to win the book "Rescue From Domestic Perfection" and I was only able to give away 10 books.

Sorry to everyone who DIDN'T win, but here were the winners who were chosen along with the area of their life that they would like Dan Ho to help them improve and make more simple:

1. Kent from Iowa

"I wish my responsibility in dealing with my kids' functions and commitments were easier. I am spending Monday night bringing my boy to football, Tuesday is my eldest daughter choir practice, Wednesday. I teach Cadets (a Christian Boy Scout-like organization) for my boy, and my wife teaches my daughters GEMS lessons. On Saturday and Sunday, I spend my time preparing for and teaching Sunday school. On top of everything else, the school thinks we should have one hour extra per day to deal each of our four kids to help with their homework assignments. Trying to squeeze exercise in has forced me to resort to working out in the dark before work."

2. Audi from New Jersey

"I’d love to simplify my entertaining so that I can enjoy my friends more than just slaving for them the whole night and going to bed exhausted. Of course, true to Dan’s observations, it isn’t just one thing, cooking a nice meal, but it involves having the house clean enough and decorated right to set the mood that I want, and if it isn’t perfect, it wasn’t worth the effort."

3. Elizabeth from Illinois

"The area I would like to simplify the most is cooking. I am alone Sunday thru Thursday and have trouble cooking for just me--simple, easy cooking. I think I need more motivation because I would much rather pick up fast food."

4. Cynthia from Montana

"I wish there was an easier way to cook healthy!"

5. Nancy from Ohio

"I'm always feeling like I need a 'boost.' I've been on the South Beach diet since June and have lost 25 pounds, but I am starting to stray a bit. I had 3 cookies for supper, for example. A healthy lifestyle is important to me because I have diabetes and a heart problem. I would really like to read this book!"

6. Catherine from Georgia

"The area of my life I would like to make simpler is balancing home and work life. I never seem to have enough time to do the things I need to do at home because of my full-time job."

7. Kristie from Alabama

"I need to lose weight safely, consistently, and slowly. When I diet stringently, as soon as I eat normally again (bring in other foods), I gain weight. When I exercise at the gym, I gain. I do not know how to balance the dieting, exercise, and normal eating habits. I am over 50 and I need a sensible lifestyle, with regard to calorie intake. I need to lose a large amount of weight--and fast. Please help!"

8. Tina from Florida

"Currently home with a 1 month old, who's adjusting to life with me, my husband and our 19-month old. I'm just elated at having found Dan Ho, Discovery Health and all the positive, insightful and just plain helpful 'stuff' both online, on TV and would love to read the book.

Were I to seek guidance on which area of my life needs to be made simpler I would say just overall housework/work-work and my strength NOT being my organizational skills. This leaves me too tired to tackle the never-ending stacks of housework/duties. Were I able to feel more organized I could then really concentrate on my personal sense of spirituality (or lack of) and begin to feel healthier, internally. Thanks, hope that makes sense!"

9. Linda in Montana

"I watch Dan Ho's show on TV when I can. I like the healthy recipes he comes up with. One I would like is the corn on the cob with the cheese rub and the knot handles he did. I would love one of his cookbooks, the recipes I've seen on TV all look really good. As far as my life I guess the only one I can think of is I wish it was more simple to find a safe, easy, fun way to lose weight. Thank you!"

10. Sue from New Jersey

"I want to change my life as I have been on disability since last February with vertigo of unknown origin. Since the doctors disagree on the cause (migraine vs. nerve damage) I was wondering if there was any eating changes in my life that can make me better?"

CONGRATULATIONS to all of my winners! You should be receiving your book in the mail by next week sometime. Please let me know if you do not. I have also forwarded each of your comments to "The Dan Ho Show" for Dan and his producers to see. Who knows, one or more of these may be answered in an upcoming episode of his hit new show! THANKS again for entering and keep watching Discovery Health for more of "The Dan Ho Show!"

Healthy Living Is A Go On 'The Dan Ho Show'

Big hair, bigger smile and the biggest fun--it's "The Dan Ho Show!"

Have you ever met someone for the very first time and felt like you've known that person for years already? That's the immediate impression I got when I learned about this man they call Dan Ho. Yes, that really is his name and he's one of the most unique and authentic people to come to your television screen in a very long time.

The perfect life Dan thought he had was forever changed on a fateful day in February 1998 when a seizure nearly led to his premature death and the newfound respect he has gained ever since about healthy living through simplicity has led him to let down his guard, show his true feelings, and put forth who he is in a bona fide manner. It's what defines Dan Ho today and what he tried to do when he was the publisher and creator of the now-defunct Rescue magazine.

Because of the name he has made for himself in recent years, Dan Ho has been given an opportunity to present his fun and exciting ideas about living life to the fullest in a brand new show coming to Discovery Health called (oddly enough!) "The Dan Ho Show." I know, it's a typical name for a show, but it certainly has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? :)

On this new inspirational primetime series, Ho will be discussing how making simple changes in your life can help you better manage the health of your body, mind and soul so the real you can shine through for everyone to see. Call him the antithesis to the "extreme makeover" and Martha Stewart-like show movement in America because Dan Ho digs so much deeper than the visible surface where most people see us in the day-to-day. Instead, he gets to the very inner core of who we are as human beings and takes people on a reflective journey about themselves that they never thought possible.

Never relying on the health "experts" to tell him the truth about what is good for him, Dan uses his peculiar sense of humor to show people that they really can have a style all to their own to alleviate the daily stresses that life inevitably spoon-feeds them. The Dan Ho philosophy is to be who you are with the talents you have been given and let others do what they do best (aka what Ho calls DIB). You can learn a little more about what makes Dan Ho different by checking out these other unique Ho'isms.

The philosophy of Dan Ho is encompassed in his October 2006 book

His brand new book entitled "Rescue from Domestic Perfection: The Not-So Secrets of Balancing Life and Style" (you can read a little snippet from the book by clicking here) gets into the nitty gritty behind the changes that you can make as you are cooking, entertaining, decorating, cleaning, organizing, gardening, maintenance, and living life to the fullest.

My only concern about Dan Ho from the perspective of a low-carb weight loss success story is the fact that he supports the low-fat diet (see #5 on his top ten manifesto list). That in and of itself is not going to stop me from learning from this man about healthy living, but I thought I would bring it to your attention since this is a low-carb blog and you expect me to share candidly about the people and subjects I feature here. Okay, I got that out of the way.

So, are you ready to meet Dan Ho himself? Then check out these brief video snippets and tune in to Discovery Health this Tuesday night, October 17, 2006 at 9:00pm ET for a special one-hour episode of "The Dan Ho Show."

To help celebrate the release of Dan's new show, he has agreed to give away TEN FREE COPIES OF HIS BOOK to the readers of the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog to get you excited about this new chapter in his journey towards helping people enjoy a much simpler life for the sake of their health and wellbeing. Pretty cool, huh?

It's SUPER EASY to enter for your chance to get a FREE BOOK:

1. Send me an e-mail with "DAN HO GIVEAWAY" as the subject.
2. Provide your full name and mailing address (no P.O. Boxes please).
3. Share which area of your life you wish was made more simple.

That's it! But don't delay because you only have until this Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at midnight to enter to win. GOOD LUCK to everyone who participates and Dan Ho extends to you a special THANK YOU for taking proactive steps to simply your life so you can see dramatic improvements in every aspect of your health.

Let me tell you, if you are looking for sugar-coated answers to your health questions, though, then don't contact Dan Ho. LOL! Seriously, this guy uses an ascerbic wit that cuts sharply through the muckity-muck answers you usually hear from people purporting to talk about health. His style is to simply lay it all out there from his perspective so you can choose for yourself what changes you need to make in your life. If you think you can take it, then contact Dan Ho with your lifestyle questions and he very well may give you the answer you need (even if it's not the one you wanted to hear!).

Plus, if you cook and have a recipe that contains no more than five ingredients, then you should submit it to the Dan Ho Recipe Challenge. Who knows, you may see your recipe featured on an upcoming episode of his show! Give it a shot!

Whew! Did you get all of that?! "The Dan Ho Show" looks to be a cut above the rest of the garbage that's on television today and will very likely rock the boat among those "experts" who too often demand perfection and complexity when it comes to healthy living. Dan Ho says no to that and urges you to give his way a go.

Be sure to watch the special episode of "The Dan Ho Show" on Tuesday night and let me know what you think! Get those entries in to me soon for your chance to win "Rescue from Domestic Perfection: The Not-So Secrets of Balancing Life and Style." GOOD LUCK!
