Meeting Steve Yu, Flying To Phoenix, And Leaving You With 15 New Low-Carb Blogs
Christine and I will be leaving out of town on Wednesday afternoon to drive down the road three hours to Atlanta, Georgia to meet up with Steve Yu, the producer and director of an incredible film project entitled INSPIRED: The Movie. You'll recall Steve brought his wife Mariah and a film crew up to my home in Spartanburg, South Carolina last year to shoot some footage of me talking about my low-carb weight loss success. I'll be interviewing Steve for my podcast show to talk with him about the status of his amazing movie and when you can expect to see it either in theaters or on DVD. Stay tuned! Then on Thursday, we'll be getting on an airplane heading out west to Phoenix, Arizona for the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and Nutrition & Metabolism Symposium. I've been looking forward to this trip for months and now it's this week. WOO HOO! Everybody who's anybody in the world of low-carb research is gonna be at this amazing conference and I'm gonna do my best to interview and meet as many of them as I can. In fact, Christine and I came up with a YouTube video idea--since we'll have all these experts in one place, why not ask them a rather simple question that should warrant a variety of responses. Here's what I'll be asking: If you only had 15 seconds to communicate one message about health to the entire world, what would you say? Imagine what people like Dr. Mike Eades, Dr. Mary Vernon, Gary Taubes, Dr. Richard Feinman, Dr. Jeff Volek, Jackie Eberstein, and others would have to say to that question! Well, you won't have to imagine because we're gonna see EXACTLY what they'd say in that video. Be looking for it when we return early next week. While we're away in Phoenix, I should still have Internet access and I'm bringing my laptop. But I don't know how much time there will be for blogging. Probably little to none since the schedule is so tight. And the hotel we're staying at is a luxurious resort with a water theme park on site, full spa and gym, and lots of scenic beauty that may distract me from blogging. Sorry ya'll, but you gotta soak it in while you can! :P To that end, I'd like to share a bunch of new low-carb blogs with you as has become my custom before leaving on a long trip away from home. If you missed any of my previous blog posts featuring the latest and the greatest new low-carb blogs, then you can see them here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Here are 15 pretty amazing new low-carb blogs I've come across lately: 1. JON'S ATKINS CHALLENGEJonny D from the UK is on a rather bold, but possible mission--"Reducing my Weight and Improving My Health" and "To discover if the Atkins Approach Really Works." Let me tell ya, Jon, IT WORKS IT WORKS IT REALLY WORKS! He's already approaching 50 days of livin' la vida low-carb (well, sorta, if you don't count cheats like this one with a donut!) and is working his way down to 12 stone, or 168 pounds. Jon is currently at 200 pounds and well on his way to reaching his goal. Check out his blog for posts of what he is eating on his way to fit and healthy the low-carb way. 2. DYED IN VERMONT TIE-DYESOkay, you might be wondering, "Uh, Jimmy, what's a blog about tie-dye shirts got to do with low-carb dude?" GREAT QUESTION! And I could say I'm looking for the inner 60's hippie inside of me. But the reality is this Vermont blogger named Richard Rogers has some great stuff to say about diabetes that you should read. He's already said there will be more posts about how he controls his Type 2 diabetes. I LOVED this quote: "All type 2 diabetics can benefit from reduced carbohydrate intake, and I have personally found that a very low-carb diet (along with medication and blood testing) can be very effective for controlling blood sugar." WOO HOO! Somebody else that gets it! Are you getting the message yet ADA? 3. ROY AND HAZELHow can you NOT love a couple like Roy and Hazel? Here they are sharing their livin' la vida low-carb experience for all the world to see warts and all and they LOVE it. Unafraid to share whatever's on their mind good, bad, or ugly, Roy and Hazel are a trip and you should REALLY check 'em out often. Looks like a Ricky and Lucy thing if you ask me. LOL! Luuuuuuuuucy?! AWESOME and ENCOURAGING info, too! 4. 4 KINGS AND A QUEENHere's a 30-year old California homemaker named Sarah who deserves a medal or something--raising four boys and a special needs little girl while livin' la vida low-carb, too! You're my hero!!! She's trying her hand at the low-carb lifestyle eating an amazing Atkins-like high-fat/low-carb diet consisting of a fat/protein/carbohydrate ratio of 80/15/5. OUTSTANDING!!! Sarah says some people may think she's "crazy" eating this way, but it apparently "works for a lot of people." That it does. She's "playing around" with doing this for her weight and health and I think the results are gonna be much better than she could have ever imagined. You go get 'em, Sarah!!! 5. GLUCOHOLICIf you are a diabetic or low-carber looking for sugar-free snacks reviews, then this is the blog for you. ENJOY! :) 6. WEIGHTY MATTERSDr. Yoni Freedhoff is an amazing bariatric physician in Ottawa, Ontario Canada who uses non-drug therapies for treating obesity and disease. His blog is chock full of some wonderful information for people looking to live a healthy lifestyle without the need for prescriptions. I'll be sharing a podcast interview with Dr. Freedhoff very soon that you're sure to enjoy! 7. PAUL'S HEALTH BLOGPaul, a prostate cancer survivor who took control of his own health, is "living the natural path" and wants others to understand clearly why this is more preferred than being drugged up for this and that health condition. I love what he had to say about the "cholesterol deception" that is going on in our culture today. I admire your strength and determination to educate, Paul, and wish you nothing but continued success at keeping your cancer in remission. 8. DR. SEARS' ZONE DIETOkay, so this site isn't new nor is it a blog. But if you haven't come across Dr. Barry Sears and The Zone diet before, then it's certainly worth taking a look at this site. Dr. Sears has been on the cutting edge of nutritional science talking about the subject of inflammation as the culprit in obesity and disease long before anyone else was. And lately, he's been lauded for helping 1200-pound Manuel Uribe get his weight and health under control (he's lost 500 pounds and counting following Dr. Sears' lower-carb nutritional approach). Check it out! 9. MISS WISABUSElizabeth, a 23-year old senior at the University of Oklahoma, is livin' la vida low-carb and loving it too. Check out what she had to say on her April 7, 2008 blog entry: "So, I’m low-carbing, right? It’s changed my life. Complete 180. I couldn’t have imagined how much better I would feel, the energy I would have (Though, I could definitely handle requiring more sleep than I currently feel like I need. The energy I have between 10pm and 2am alone may be enough to raise Dr. Atkins from the dead. Will look into this.), and how good bacon can taste." You ain't seen nothin' yet, Liz! Wait until you've been eating this way for several years--UNBELIEVABLE FEELING! Keep up the great work with your low-carb progress and impeccable blog. 10. THE NEW MANDA--MY WEIGHT LOSS STORYManda is a 22-year old student from El Paso, Texas on a "fat loss journey." She hasn't posted in a couple of months, so how about we all encourage her to start blogging again and try livin' la vida low-carb if she's ready to get serious about losing weight and getting healthy. 11. LESLIE'S LOW-CARB LIFESTYLELeslie is a spunky 23-year old, 275-pound (and falling!) Indiana girl who's ready to be dead serious about livin' la vida low-carb and lose over 100 pounds. And she's doing it, too, already shedding over 35 pounds this year! Cheer her on to GREAT success in 2008. YOU CAN DO THIS, Leslie!!! We believe in you, girl, so KEEP AT IT! 12. TALKING OUT OF TURNCharlie Seabold is one interesting chap. Just take a quick look at his blog to see what I'm talking about. But one thing about Charlie that I especially enjoyed seeing is that he is succeeding on the Atkins diet along with implementing Fred Hahn's Slow Burn techniques into his routine starting last month. He's below 200 pounds now thanks to Gary Taubes and Hahn and that's a very good thing. Click here to read about how Charlie's thinking on diet has evolved because of what he has learned about low-carb living. 13. HYPERLIPID52-year old Peter is a veterinarian from the UK who consumes a diet consisting of 80 percent fat. YEAH BABY!!! He does eat enough carbohydrates to stay out of ketosis and has been doing this ever since June 2003 claiming "I feel better than I did as a teenager." I adored what he had to say about his diet: "I am always looking for evidence that I may be wrong to eat against most current medical advice. So far Pubmed backs me up." HA! You get 'em Peter!!! Superb information found throughout this blog. 14. SH.NET BLOGSyera is another one of those unconventional bloggers. But I couldn't help but stop in my tracks when I saw this blog post she entitled "Because some people just don't get it." In it, Syera explains the REAL reason why people get diabetes (and it's not because of their obesity) and the diagram she uses to show the connection between carbs, sugar cravings, and insulin spikes is worth taking a look at. THANKS for making this crystal clear, Syera! 15. KELLY THE CULINARIANI am a low-carb recipe nut, so naturally Kelly Mahoney's blog was a perfect choice to include among my list of low-carb blogs since that's what she features at her site. This Illinois journalist isn't an exclusive low-carb recipe blogger, but she certainly makes some incredible dishes when she does decide to make 'em low-carb (like this low-carb chicken parmesan dish--WOW!). Bookmark Kelly's blog and visit early and often (preferably on an empty stomach, too!). Give these blogs a look see and leave a comment for the ones you REALLY like. I'll bet you'll make their day if you do. Tell them you read about their blog at "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" from Jimmy Moore. That'll trip 'em out for sure. :D Got a new low-carb blog you want me to know about? Send me the URL at livinlowcarbman@charter.net and I may just feature it in a future blog post. And if you're thinking about starting a blog, let me encourage you to DO IT! The more low-carb bloggers we can have sharing the good news of livin' la vida low-carb to the world, the better! There are real people who need to know there is a better way than the high-carb, low-fat diet. EWWWWW! You can access hundreds of low-carb links at my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Links" blog. ROD'S DIET & EXERCISE DIARYRod is from Clinton, Iowa and is on the Atkins diet to try to lose weight. Like my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Menus" blog, he is documenting his daily low-carb menus and exercise routine for anyone interested in seeing what he is doing to shed the pounds. Rod's committed to low-carb living because it's what "works the best for me." YOU GO BOY! 20. WEIGHTANDSEEFollow the low-carb life of Michael and Nina as they go through this "journey toward health" in their own way. Nina claims she's not a very good writer, only "competent," but don't let her fool you. She has insights into life that relate to more people than she even realizes. Keep writing from your heart, Nina, and you'll find an audience of readers just begging for you to write some more! ;) 21. LYNN'S WEIGHT-LOSS JOURNEYYou may have seen Lynn talk about her 168-pound weight loss on Oprah or featured on CNN recently. Her weight loss story is incredibly inspiring because SHE DID IT! I'm all for people finding a plan that works for them and doing it for the rest of their life. Lynn has certainly done that and now she's blogging about the lessons she has learned along the way. WAY TO GO, LYNN!!! 22. IT'S ALL IN THE GAME THEORY...Parker is not your typical low-carb blogger. But over this past year, livin' la vida low-carb has helped him shed 25 pounds, the majority of which is stored fat. After reading the Gary Taubes book Good Calories, Bad Calories, now he is convinced the carbohydrate hypothesis that is discussed in that book is true and that fat is not the great enemy our our diet as it has been made out to be. This blog will be one to watch for some great perspectives about low-carb living. 23. PALEO DIET - SO EASY A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT!Cute name for a blog (in a play on those Geico commercials), but 50-something year old Gary Rea is fully committed to sharing his experiences eating like our early ancestors to return to a proper weight and improve his health. Follow his journey to improve his diabetes, cholesterol and more on the Paleolithic diet! 24. MY WEIGHT JOURNALAlthough it's a simple title for a weight loss blog, I was pleased to see this blog post detailing the plan for shedding the pounds is a low-carbohydrate diet. The reasons given for following this plan along with a high-fiber intake are ones I think we can all agree with: "It makes sense to me. I understand it. I can remain committed to it. I have remained committed to it. And, I will continue my commitment. There is no food that I crave or that I desire that is forbidden on this diet." Yep, yep, and yep again! 25. WEIGHT REDUCTION COACHI was very pleasantly surprised when Brenda Emmett from this blog did a feature post about the work I am doing, so I decided to check out what the Weight Reduction Coach blog was all about. Outstanding columns that will surprise you how much they espouse much of what you and I believe to be true about diet and health. ENJOY! 26. TRESSES' OTHER CORNERTresses blesses everyone she encounters at her blog with the relaxing sounds of a melodic hymn from her favorite Christian artist. But she too has been positively impacted by Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories and blogs about it. Here's what she wrote in the comments section to one of her readers about her decision to start livin' la vida low-carb: "My plan is working for me. I stalled for a good 3 weeks, but got going again. Even when the weight stalled, my body fat percentage kept dropping, so something good was happening. And, of course, I just feel so much better." ABSOLUTELY! And that's what keeps us going. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, Tresses!!! 27. HAVEN'T WE METMiss Rancher is a newlywed, but she is tee-totally in love with the low-carb way of eating, too. She gets the insulin connection to obesity and disease and articulates it in an amazing way on this web site. Reference it, bookmark it, and drop little Miss Rancher (or should that be Mrs. Rancher!) an e-mail while you're there! :D 28. IOWAAVENUEThe tag line for this blog is "It's about a healthy lifestyle!" Oh YEAH! That's my motto, baby, and I'm happy to see others championing this cause, too. This blog is brimming with so much information, it'll take you a while to soak it all in. Go there, experience it, and leave better informed and encouraged in your quest for better health! That's all I've got for you this time around, but please feel free to share any favorite low-carb blogs you have that I haven't mentioned before. Send the URL to me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. I'll see you when I get back from vacation, so ya'll hold down the fort while I'm gone. SEE YA IN MARCH!!! :D Labels: blogs, diabetes, diet, health, low-carb, vacation, weight loss

Blogs are just like jackrabbits! Just when you think you've counted them all, here come a whole bunch more for you to look at. I'm certainly not complaining about all the fantastic new low-carb diet and health blogs that have been birthed over this past year. It's a testimony to how strong livin' la vida low-carb still is as we begin 2008. Check out the well over 100 blogs I have previously featured here at the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here and here. It thrills me to know that behind each of those blogs there are real people who are applying the healthy nutritional principles of low-carb living into their own lives to produce remarkable improvements in their weight and overall health. I'm excited to watch their progress, learn from their experiences, and continue following their lifelong journey to a better future. That's a major reason why I blog to see people transform themselves into what they were meant to be. Today I have another 33 audacious new low-carb blogs just in time for 2008 to get you motivated and jazzed in your new commitment to living better the low-carb way. These are some of the ones I have discovered in recent weeks and I'm always happy to feature even more in future blog posts. If you see one I haven't listed at my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Links" blog, then please e-mail me the URL at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. Visit these 33 blogs and bookmark your favorites! ENJOY! 1. BALD IS BEAUTIFUL!A 48-year old Tennessean and self-described "big eater" named Scott has lost 140 pounds following a sugar-free/low-carb lifestyle after having weight loss surgery and his influence is rubbing off on his wife and even his young son RJ who has done a remarkable job of shedding the pounds. He's even got a recipe blog where he posted this recipe for a Mexican Style Chicken Kiev with only 3g carbohydrates. SWEET! You'll fall in love with the sincerity of this Southern gentleman as he continues down his own personal journey to better health. 2. ERIC EDBERGEric Edberg is a very talented cello player who has taken an interest in making beautiful music with the body he has been given by livin' la vida low-carb. Starting off at around 264 pounds at the beginning of October 2007, Eric whittled away about 35 pounds in two months. Not too shabby, Eric! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Keep reading his blog to follow his low-carb weight loss progress. And don't miss his music if you LOVE classical! 3. EZ-LOWCARB!I have a lot of respect and admiration for the work and dedication to the low-carb lifestyle that 42-year old PJ from "The Divine Low-Carb" blog, who has lost 140 pounds following a low-carb plan, invests in this community. She works tirelessly to help provide information about low-carb living to the masses and this new project is no exception. She wanted to create a blog featuring some basic low-carb dishes to get started during the first two weeks, some advice from successful low-carbers on what to do and not do on this healthy lifestyle change, and an overall look at what livin' la vida low-carb is all about in bite-sized chunks. This is still a BIG work in progress and YOU are encouraged to add your two cents worth too. Anyone you know who is looking to start on low-carb should go look at this blog. 4. GOODBYE SUGARYin Teing was shocked to learn how much sugar was destroying her health after reading a book about it last year. Now she's fully committed to saying goodbye to sugar for good and sharing her experiences with her readers. She still is stuck on eating a low-fat diet along with that sugar-free one, but she claims it is because of her gallbladder. I'm happy to see another example in the blogosphere of someone who realizes how damaging sugar is to weight and health. 5. MS. MUSCLES FITNESS BLOGFemale fitness advocacy gets a boost from Sheryl Blystone--aka Ms. Muscles! She talks about women partaking in resistance training and weight lifting to improve their flexibility, strength, and health in conjunction with sound dietary concepts to coincide with your healthy lifestyle. You ladies should take a peek at this blog if you are even remotely interested in this topic. 6. INSERT FUNNY NAME HEREVerlin Henderson weighed in at an eye-popping 435 pounds in October 2007 when he decided to go on the Atkins low-carb diet. He once lost 50 pounds on Atkins back in 2001, but he didn't make it his permanent lifestyle change back then and gained it all back. Now he's devoted to this way of eating until he gets down to his ultimate goal of 180 pounds...and then for the rest of his life! As of January 20, 2008, he's down 67 pounds (WOO HOO!) although he's stuck in a bit of a stall right now. Keep at it, Verlin, and you'll get through this. My weight stalled for ten weeks in a row and then the floodgates opened back up. Keep your head held high and NEVER GIVE UP!!! 7. SISTERS LOSING WEIGHTThis blog is about two twenty-something sisters near 300 pounds a piece living in Boston and New York with two specific goals in mind: lose weight and run in a 5k race by August 2008! It's a HUGE task to undertake and I wish them nothing but success in this endeavor. One sister is doing a vegetarian/vegan diet and the other is doing Weight Watchers. Watch the progress of L. and A. as they push towards doing what may seem like the impossible come August. 8. PANTS-O-METERThis blog by a woman named Becky is just getting started, but looks to be a pretty good one based on this humorous first post. Hopefully we'll see more from Becky soon. 9. They are doing an AMAZING job right now and I couldn't be prouder. KEEP IT UP SWATKINS AND QUEST4HEALTH!!! You're livin' la vida low-carb and lovin' it all the way. :D 12. KEITH CONNECTS THE DOTSLike me, Keith stopped listening to all the so-called "health experts" and started following a dietary approach to living healthy that went against everything he had ever heard was good for him. Now he "connects the dots" and figures these "experts" aren't so smart after all. Welcome to the club, Keith! 13. CINDY & COLLEEN ARE THE BIGGEST LOSERSCindy from Buffalo, New York and Colleen from Wellington, Florida are also participating in "The Biggest Loser" Million Pound Matchup as the seek to lose nearly 100 pounds between them. TOMORROW AND TOMORROW AND TOMORROW...Miss Rancher and her husband Aaron have decided to start low-carbing as a way to be healthy. She has already experienced the benefits of eating this way and it certainly looks like Aaron has read Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories. This couple is well on their way to being another low-carb success story out there in the great blogosphere. 15. BILLY'S LEAN BODY QUESTNovember 13, 2006 will be a date that Billy will never forget. It was on that fateful day that he decided to become a "lean, mean" man for the first time in his life by getting his body fat as low as it can possibly go. A little over one year later, he's already approach single-digit body fat (if he hasn't already gotten there) and looks fantastic! You'll have to check out his blog to see him morph from fat to fit. GREAT JOB, Billy! 16. LOW-CARB NATIONWill has decided the HE is gonna be "The Biggest Loser" in 2008 and he's set to do it the low-carb way. Pushing 500 pounds when he began working towards this goal in late December, the weight is already pouring off of him like butter in a hot skillet. Follow Will as he has the potential to lose over 200 pounds this year and perhaps save his life from an early grave due to morbid obesity! 17. FOOD IS REMEDY, FOOD IS MEDICINEBob (The Traveller) looks at food as a means by which to heal the body and keep it healthy. If you are sick, then food can be the "remedy" for whatever ailment you have. We could use more people talking about food in this manner and I'm glad Bob is leading the way with this premise at his blog. 18. THE 2008 PROJECT: BELLYFATOLOGYWhat is The 2008 Project: Bellyfatology? Simply put, it's one man's mission to sculpt his body back into the shape he had it in back in 2002. Bryan has specific goals in mind and hopes to challenge others to join him in his little experiment to encourage anyone to get into shape for the new year. Are you up to it? Stick with it, follow it exactly as Dr. Atkins wrote it, and then KEEP doing it for the rest of your life. You're gonna do AWESOME!!! 20. HARPOONA thought-provoking blog that heavily leans towards the low-carb point of view. From the About page, we learn the author of the blog lives in Asia. I'm sure there will be a lot shared about the cuisine in that country and how to eat low-carb anyway. I especially like this rant about ELEM (Eat Less Exercise More) that should have you cheering until you're hoarse! Gonna take a peek at this blog early and often. 21. LOW-CARB AND LOSING IT...Excited only partially describes cc1sillygoose and her devotion to livin' la vida low-carb. She's just plain nutty about it and doesn't mind that a bit in the world. THE CARB-ORATORThe Carb-Orator is from El Paso, Texas and is living proof that a high-fat, low-carb diet is not just good for weight loss, but an amazing turnaround in your health markers, too. Lots And Lots Of New Low-Carb Blogs, Baby!
One of my favorite kind of blog posts I do involves linking to any new low-carb and health-related blogs I have come across. We're all in the business of sharing how livin' la vida low-carb has changed our lives and each of us comes at it from our own unique and personal perspective. You can access my previous blog posts with some of the newest and best low-carb blogs by clicking here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. While some people prefer to share recipes, others enjoy talking about their weight loss experience; still others get into the ins and outs of low-carb living while some bloggers just go off on a rant and that's their shtick! I love reading all kinds of blogs and we've got 14 of them to share with you today. There are lots and lots of new low-carb blogs, baby, so let's share them now! 1. 2BLOWHARDSWhile not EXPLICITLY a "low-carb blog" per se, this one features the writings of the fictitious Michael Blowhard (described as the "media flunky and arts buff" in the Blowhard family) who has been known to write a few blog posts about saturated fat being healthy and low-carb being a pretty good option for people desiring weight and health improvements. Check it out and you can e-mail Michael at michaelblowhard@gmail.com. 2. LOW-CARB CRAIGCraig Graydon started livin' la vida low-carb in October 2007 and is committed to this way of eating fully. He's lost nearly 40 pounds in his first two months on a low-carb diet and often writes about the low-carb news and information he finds most interesting. You can encourage Craig in his weight loss journey by e-mailing him at craig_graydon@comcast.net. 3. EMZI'S LOW-CARB JOURNALA 24-year old Hoosier resident named Emily Green is using low-carb to help with her insulin resistance and she needs to lose weight to bring her condition under control. Follow Emzi along in this journey to better health and cheer her to excellence by sending her an e-mail at emzi06@gmail.com. 4. COMMON WOMANFroilee from Santa Cruz, California shares her thoughts as a 47-year old "common woman" trying to live the low-carb life. With opinions that are all her own, you'll have fun reading what she has to share on this encouraging and uplifting blog! 5. AB NORMAL'S RANTS AND RANDOMSBack in September 2007, I shared with you an amazing low-carb weight loss transformation story of a 42-year old man named Burton Brown from Salt Lake City, Utah. And I just discovered he has his own blog! There's not much there yet, but this official "loser" (of weight, that is!) will likely have a LOT to say, so check in early and often for Burton's "rants and randoms." 6. CARB WARS BlogJudy Barnes Baker certainly needs no introduction to the low-carb community ever since the release of her fantastic low-carb cookbook this year called CARB WARS: Sugar Is The New Fat. Although she created a companion web site for her book, Judy wanted to connect with her readers even more with a blog--so here it is! I have no doubt you'll be treated to some yummy recipes for your low-carb lifestyle soon enough. :D 7. MARGIN NOTESCasey Ellis is the author of this blog about the fine art of cooking. But just make sure you NEVER mention the word "peas" on her blog anywhere or you'll get three lashes with a wet noodle promptly! She offers a wide variety of recipes that are adaptable to your low-carb way of eating or fit perfectly. Try 'em sometime! 8. ATKINS LOW CARB ORIGINAL 1970 DIETPaul Bain, Jr. just turned 50, but that has stopped him from making one of the biggest decisions of his life--getting his morbid obesity under control! This 450-pound Wisconsin native has embarked on a bona fide low-carb lifestyle change and nothing is gonna stand in the way of his success. His enthusiasm for the original Atkins diet is contagious and you can't help but want to see someone like this succeed. YOU CAN DO IT, PAUL!!! 9. SHANE ELLISONWhile not a "blogger" as much as he is a commentator, Shane Ellison certainly has a lot to say about health and nutrition. His columns at the News With Views web site have certainly stirred the pot on more than one occasion. You won't want to miss a single word this man has to say because he just makes a whole lotta sense. 10. INDUSTRY FIGURE TOM CHAPPELL This is a very methodical blog by an introspective writer willing to pay meticulous attention to details to make sure it is as perfect as possible. That's Tom Chappell's way and the reader is the benefactor of that process. He doesn't exclusively write about obesity, diabetes, and nutrition--but when he does, you'll want to be paying attention! He's even got a series of posts looking at Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories that is absolutely fascinating! 11. MY KITCHEN IS NOT YOUR LABWell, there was a blog for this film about genetically-engineered food, but now it's gone. But I still want to tell you about it so you can be aware of this movie if it ever hits the big screen here in the United States. Watch the trailer to see why mass-produced food from factory farming has destroyed our food supply. I'd love to tell you more about the film as details are released, so stay tuned! 12. CONDITIONING RESEARCHAre you a fitness buff? Then this blog is for you! Featuring diet and fitness-related blog posts for people desiring to build muscle and endurance, there's always something to read and apply to your routine to make your stronger and better than you were before. E-mail Chris your exercise questions at chris@conditioningresearch.com. 13. CONTROLLED-CARB KIDSLeave it to "Weight Of The Evidence" blog writer Regina Wilshire to create a new blog devoted to helping implement a strategy for low-carb living with your children. Written in the same manner you have come to love and respect from her original low-carb blog, this one will zero in on the scientific data as it relates to carbohydrate restriction and children. When Regina Wilshire writes, it's well worth reading! 14. PCOS PRIMERSpeaking of Regina Wilshire, she has also created ANOTHER new web site devoted to the condition known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, aka PCOS. This is a condition that is known to be improved with a low-carb diet and yet this simple dietary solution to a very serious female health issue is summarily ignored by those health professionals who are supposed to be treating patients with PCOS. Regina, whose husband Dr. Gil Wilshire is a reproductive endocrinologist, will keep you up-to-date on all the latest scientific research and information on this important subject! Do you have a low-carb blog and would like to see it featured here at "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb?" It would be my privilege to share the work you are doing with my readers so they can glean from your experiences, too! Drop me an e-mail at livinlowcarbman@charter.net with your blog's URL, a description of your blog, and anything else you'd like to share about it! Let me hear from you sometime and we'll give you some FREE PUBLICITY for your blog! :D Labels: blogs, diet, health, low-carb, weight loss
LLVLC, Protein Power Among NOEDb's Top 100 Health and Wellness Blogs List
The "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog has once again been recognized by a respected health web site to be one of the best of the best on the Internet today. I am always surprised when something like this happens because I am only one person with my own opinions and experiences about the subject of diet and health. It is what I learn from my faithful readers on a daily basis that warrants praise. So this is for YOU! In August, my blog was featured at HealthCentral.com as one of the Top 5 "Diet And Exercise" web sites of 2007 and what an honor that was. Now the Nursing Online Education Database (NOEDb) has tipped their hat to my blog in their list of the "Top 100 Health and Wellness Blogs" among the distinguished "weight loss blogs" included. There were other categories in the list, including an overall top ten, diet blogs, nutrition, walking & hiking, faster than walking, general fitness, physical health, strength training, medical outlooks, and alternative health. It was quite an undertaking to compile such a comprehensive list of 100 blogs, which also happened to include one of my favorite blogs in the whole world: Drs. Michael & Mary Dan Eades from Protein Power were listed among the top "nutrition" blogs. CONGRATULATIONS Dr. Mike and MD! You DESERVE it for your contributions to the low-carb community!!! Other blogs of note that I recognized on the list from fellow bloggers I have dealt with include Amy Tenderich's Diabetes Mine (who recently featured my blog and forum), Steve Vaught's Fat Man Walking (I featured his amazing weight loss journey in this blog post last year), and Jim Foster's Diet-Blog (who was kind enough to publish an interview with me last April). I'm proud of you Amy, Steve, and Jim! Keep up the fantastic work you are doing for the sake of health! It seems the staff over at NOEDb had some rather specific criteria on which they judged potential blogs to include on their prestigious list. This wasn't just thrown together real quickly, but rather there was a methodical set of requirements that needed to be fulfilled before the site would be considered. They are: 1. Must include contact information."After all, you don't want to take advice from someone who wants to remain anonymous, do you?"2. Exhibits a sense of humor."Losing weight, getting fit, and learning about diseases is serious enough - a laugh or two can provide some good medicine along the way."3. Popularity among users and personal success."Both as professionals and as individuals who have changed or who are publicly changing lifestyles and overcoming their diseases and disabilities."So there you have it! Special THANKS to Jimmy Atkinson from the Nursing Online Education Database (NOEDb) for honoring the readers of the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog with this and I encourage everyone to show their appreciation to him for naming two low-carb blogs--mine and Drs. Mike & Mary Dan's--in the Top 100 Health and Wellness Blogs of 2007. You can e-mail Jimmy Atkinson at contact@noedb.org. Let's flood NOEDb with positive messages of support for the work they are doing to educate their readers on other health options for those seeking education, encouragement and inspiration in their personal health journey. THANK YOU!!! :D Labels: Amy Tenderich, blogs, Diabetes Mine, Diet-Blog, eades, Fat Man Walking, health, Jim Foster, Livin' La Vida Low-Carb, NOEDb, Nursing Online Education Database, protein power, Steve Vaught, wellness
50 Sizzling Hot New Low-Carb Blogs For 2007
It's not often that I decide to go on a vacation and not have ANY access to a computer or the Internet. But on Friday morning, Christine and I will be driving up to Indiana to attend a family reunion on her dad's side of the family and the older family members we're staying with don't even own a computer. GASP! Oh the horrors! EEEK! 8O Well, this trip has been a long time coming because we've never been able to attend this reunion as a married couple in our 12 years together because my job would never permit it. But now I'm the gracious boss since I'm working for myself and I give myself permission to GO! ;) YEAH!!! What this means is I will not be blogging for the next five days in a row (oh, be still my fluttering heart!). I've never gone more than a day or two without blogging since this thing started in April 2005, so I may start going through blog withdrawal symptoms (can't be nearly as bad as sugar/carb withdrawal was, though!) by Saturday night! Hee hee! Anyways, I thought I'd give you plenty to chew on while I am gone through the middle of next week. Many of you know I have a companion low-carb links blog as well as a diabetes links blog that supplement what I am doing here at the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog. Five Truly Eclectic Low-Carb Diet Blogs
One of my favorite new features at my blog this year has been highlighting the brand new low-carb blogs that seem to be growing like rabbits. :) I have always said that if we are going to influence our culture with the message of livin' la vida low-carb, then we need more and more people who are living this diet as a permanent lifestyle change to start engaging others with their story. That's why I feature all the low-carb sites I can find in one convenient place at my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Links" blog. Whether it is on MySpace, Facebook, or right here in the blogosphere, we should always be looking for ways to share the positive message of low-carb living with a desperate and hopeless world full of overweight and obese people longing for a better life. We have dietary truth on our side and it's ready right now to set these people free from their obesity bondage! Will we have the courage to share it with them? Continuing my regular feature over the past year highlighting the outstanding new low-carb blogs (see my previous blog reviews here, here, here, and here), check out FIVE MORE truly eclectic low-carb diet blogs that I know you will enjoy. If you like what you see, then leave them a comment and let 'em know. You'll absolutely make their day! :) 1. HAOLE FATS This is one twisted, but absolutely hilarious blogWanna quick taste of what this blog is like? Just read the post called "Carbohydrate Intole-Rant" to see for yourself! Something just ain't right about that Anthony. HA! But he's living the life of luxury in the state of Hawaii. Lucky man! By the way, the name of this blog is a Malay-Chinese word meaning "White Fat Foreigners." Thankfully, he is seeking "to live a more healthy lifestyle." Well THANK GOD for that! If you think you can handle reading this blog and keep your sanity, then pay a visit often to "Haole Fats."2. ILLUSIONS OF HAPPINESS After a bit of a sabbatical from blogging, Joanne is backIt was about 1 1/2 years ago when I blogged about this Spokane, Washington mother of two, but her "Illusions of Happiness" blog was made private when Joanne Ziegler started struggling with her weight loss. But then she decided to try the low-carb diet earlier this year and her weight dropped from 270 way down to 172 pounds in only five months! That's nearly 100 pounds! WOW! Follow her amazing progress as she shrinks down into that radiant woman she was meant to be. CONGRATULATIONS, Joanne! 3. FATTY KATHY'S WEIGHT LOSS JOURNAL Kathy has been through more turmoil in the past two years than mostImagine you are living your charmed, happily married life with all the hopes and dreams of a bright future when suddenly your spouse is taken from you. That's exactly what happened to a 48-year old Morgantown, WV woman named Kathy who obviously fell into a deep pit of depression after this happened in 2005 and started eating food to soothe her pain. But now she is seeking to lose the weight she has put on in an open personal forum with a rather blunt title-- "Fatty Kathy's Weight Loss Journal." I'm personally cheering this emotionally fragile and precious woman to weight loss victory. It's her time to move on with her life. 4. MALE PATTERN FITNESS Lou Schuler brings his vast fitness experience to YOUWhen you've written several bestselling health books, been the former fitness editor of Men's Fitness magazine and the former fitness director of Men’s Health magazine as well as certified as a strength and conditioning specialist (C.S.C.S.) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, then I'd say you have a lot of credibility to talk about the subject of diet and health with authority. That's exactly what you get from "Male Pattern Fitness" from the sometimes strange and quirky, but always entertaining Lou Schuler. He recently updated his site to make it very user-friendly and power-packed with health news you can use! 5. LIVING LEAN FOR LIFE Cheryl is another blogger finding success on low-carbFinally, the "Living Lean For Life" blog is run by a woman from Hickory, NC named Cheryl who proudly shares what her "#1 Diet Secret Weapon" is. She is yet another one of the many new low-carb dieters seeking to lose the weight and get in shape. You're gonna do GREAT, Cheryl! GO GET 'EM! :) Do YOU have a brand new low-carb blog that you'd like for me to feature here at "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb?" and at my links blog. Then please e-mail me your URL and a brief description of what your blog is about at livinlowcarbman@charter.net.
